Actually, tptb deliberately cancelled SGA in order to make room for SGU. They wanted a new show with a younger, "hipper" cast. Malozi does not care about the fan base. He has been quoted as saying that he believes the fans will watch anything as long as it has a stargate in it. What the fans want is irrelevant to him.
Author's Response: Ooh, tptb totally frakked SGA over for SGU. But the reluctance from MGM (or any other producers) to bring SGA back is because the final season had such low ratings. The fact that SGU also has such low ratings doesn't help much because the studio and producers are loosing their faith in the Stargate franchise. And right now, in this crisis, they need to be certain of success before bringing something back that has "failed" in the past. And yes, I also blame M&M for frakking over the fans and the actors and not listening or caring about them.
Good story. To bad this didn't happen on the show. FYI the reason they got rid of Torri is because SG1 ended & Amanda Tapping still had a contract with tptb for another year. I guess they couldn't break the contract so they got rid of Torri instead so that Amanda could stay on until her contract ended. I don't know why both actresses couldn't have been on SGA. At the very least they could have had Elizabeth resign & return to Earth instead of the totally crappy way they ended her.
Author's Response: Thanks!! And I know the entire story. Joe told it at Fedcon and Torri told it all over at Shore Leave, so I got it first hand ;^) But it was also the way they treated her and her character that pissed a lot of people and her off. Elizabeth could have easily stayed in Atlantis as a negotiator, switching teams and going where she was needed. Instead tptb gave her a crappy ending and wrote Carter as a ripped-off Weir, which pissed the Carter fans off. And then tptb decide to get Woolsey in?? *headdesk* With decisions like that, I'm not surprised the show was canceled after 5 season. Our season 6 will so make up for all the crap tptb gave us. But tptb wanted to get rid of Torri (god knows why cause she's an absolute sweetheart and everyone loved her to bits) and after being treated that way and not wanting to give Elizabeth a decent ending, she said 'Frank you' to tptb, so I doubt if they will ever get her back :^( Luckily the fans are a lot smarter though :^D
